Operation ID
OperationID is a free service by OSUPD designed to help you protect your valuables by engraving a unique identifier onto items you own. By marking your property, you make it easier for law enforcement to recover stolen items and return them to you.
How It Works
You can check out an engraver from either:
- The OSU Police Station (map)
- The Satellite Police Station at the Student Union (map)
The engraver can be used on a variety of materials, including:
- Plastic
- Glass
- Metal
Whether it’s a bicycle, luggage, or even a pet’s tag, OperationID makes it possible to engrave a permanent ID to help deter theft and aid recovery.
What Can I Engrave
- Bicycles and scooters
- Electronics (if safe to engrave)
- Luggage tags and travel gear
- Dog or cat tags
- Tools and instruments
Why Does It Matter
Engraving your property:
- Deters theft by making items harder to resell
- Aids police in identifying and returning stolen property
- NOTE: A great unique identifier to use would be your CWID number. This ID marker is specific to individuals associated with OSU (students, faculty and staff) and could help a lost/ stolen item be returned faster than another ID method.
- Gives you peace of mind knowing your valuables are marked
